Curb Check is a free neighbor service operated by the Washington Square West Civic Association ("WSWCA," "we," "us"). It helps residents find street-closure permits that may affect where they park, and optionally alerts them when a new permit is posted. This policy explains what we collect and why.
The short version: We collect only what the service needs to work — the location you check, and the email or phone number you give us for alerts. We do not sell your information, we do not share it for marketing, and you can unsubscribe at any time from a link in every message.
1. Information we collect
When you check a parking spot
- The location you enter or select (address, street name, house number, and map coordinates)
- The date range and block range you chose
- The date and time of the check, and how many permits were found
- A randomly generated identifier stored in your browser, so the service can show you your own saved watches. This is not tied to your name and does not identify you personally.
We keep this in an aggregate parking log to help the Complete Streets Committee understand where in the neighborhood parking pressure and street closures occur. It is used for neighborhood planning and advocacy, not to track individuals.
When you sign up for alerts
- Your email address, if you request email alerts
- Your mobile number, if you request text alerts
- The location and date range you asked us to watch
When you report a problem with a closure
- The permit number and location involved, the issue you selected, and any details you write
- Your email address, only if you choose to provide it for follow-up
What we do not collect
We do not require an account, we do not collect names, payment information, or government identifiers, and we do not use advertising trackers or third-party analytics cookies.
2. How we use your information
- To show you street-closure permits near the location you check
- To send the alerts you requested, and only for the location and dates you selected
- To verify WSWCA membership when text alerts are limited to members
- To route reported closure problems to the Complete Streets Committee
- To understand neighborhood-wide parking and closure patterns in aggregate
We do not use your information to build advertising profiles, and we do not contact you about anything other than the alerts you signed up for.
3. Text message (SMS) terms
We do not share or sell mobile opt-in information or phone numbers to any third party for marketing purposes. Your number is used solely to deliver the parking alerts you requested, through our messaging provider.
- Consent: You receive texts only if you enter your mobile number and select "Text me."
- Message frequency: Varies. Messages are sent only when a new street-closure permit affects a location you are watching — often none for weeks.
- Cost: Message and data rates may apply. Curb Check is free; your carrier may charge you.
- Opt out: Reply STOP to any message, use the unsubscribe link in any message, or use the unsubscribe form on the Curb Check page.
- Help: Reply HELP, or contact us using the details below.
- Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
4. Who we share information with
We share information only with the service providers needed to operate Curb Check, and only for that purpose:

We may also disclose information if required by law. We never sell your information.
5. How long we keep information
- Alert subscriptions: until you unsubscribe or the parking window you selected ends. Inactive records may be retained for a limited period for troubleshooting.
- Parking log entries: retained in aggregate for neighborhood planning. These contain locations and timestamps, not your contact information.
- Reported problems: retained so the committee can track recurring issues.
You may request deletion of your information using the contact details below.
6. Your choices
- Unsubscribe from any alert using the link included in every message
- Unsubscribe from all alerts using the form at the bottom of the Curb Check page
- Reply STOP to any text message
- Use the service without signing up for alerts at all — checking a spot requires no contact information
- Request access to, correction of, or deletion of your information by contacting us
7. Security
Data is transmitted over encrypted connections and stored with our hosting provider. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we collect as little as possible in order to limit risk.
8. Children
Curb Check is intended for adults who park vehicles. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The "last updated" date above will change, and material changes will be noted on the Curb Check page.
